A ball cannot be lost in gur or non playable zone, the rule is nearest point of relief if the ball is found but if not then drop behind where it last crossed the area. If a hook shot puts the ball in the left side of the area a drop into what is most certainly a very poor lie ensues. The question is this if I put a ball in the left side can I just declare it lost and drop in a more favourable place. I personaly think that a drop zone should be marked where any ball going in should be played from. Any thoughts except don't hook into the left!

I believe you are right about declaring the ball lost and playing from the nearest point of relief from where it last crossed the hazard line. However you have to be careful when you declare it lost because if your ball is found by your opponent (or even your partner) then you would have to play it from the nearest point of relief!

I have checked on this point and a player cannot declare a ball is lost it is not permitted.
